"Once again, we did so enjoy the ‘Age Unlimited’ day you organised for us, this time at Painshill….we had absolutely no idea such a gem even existed.
It was magically interesting, greatly enhanced by your guide’s explanations……again perfect weather (who do you know up there, we’re mightily impressed!) ...and it’s incredibly close to London, so no trouble at all to get to. Thank you for all of it…...yes, the modernist house too, aspects of which bear some relationship to our flat…..we really did have a lovely day."
Age Unlimited was delighted when painter Arabella Dorman agreed to talk on our behalf along with charity Beyond Conflict at the venerable Freemasons Hall in London on the evening of 15th May. She showed many moving illustrations of her paintings as well as stunning photographs that she had taken in Syria in particular, and many were moved to tears to hear first hand stories of what she encountered. Themes of the talk also included loss of childhood and security, exile and hope for the future.
Although at times very harrowing to listen to, Arabella also conveyed also a great feeling of promise and continuing renewal of spirit.
The evening was also enhanced by a visit to 'Brothers in Arms - Peace through Sacrifice' an exhibition of rare photographs spanning the Boer War to the Second World War which was on display at the Freemasons Hall. All in all, a memorable evening for all who attended.
