About The Event

Andrew Duncan has generously agreed to speak about his recently published novel, Somerville's War, featuring the women pilots of the Air Transport Auxiliary. Often at great peril, these extraordinary women ferried aircraft from the factory to front line airfields, freeing up RAF pilots for combat: a little known corner of WW2 history, the ATA is increasingly recognised as instrumental in Britain's air superiority. Andrew's insight into these courageous women, doing a man's work long before that became commonplace, is unique: his mother was one of them. We are delighted that mezzo soprano Sophia Grech will provide a suitable musical accompaniment to the evening with songs from the era.

Tickets, which include a glass of champagne on arrival, a simple supper served at 8.15 and the talk by Andrew, cost £65 per person. The tickets also include musical accompaniment by mezzo soprano Sophia Grech, whom we are delighted is joining us.
